Microsoft Executive Circle Webcast: Advanced Web Server Security With IIS 6.0 and Windows Server 2003

IIS 6.0 provides vastly improved security for Web servers. IIS 6.0 is locked down by default, limiting the attack surface through aggressive security defaults. Web Service Extensions, which prohibits any executable from running unless it is specifically allowed, makes it very difficult for an attacker to launch malicious applications on the server. In addition, there are many important security related improvements including rigorous html parsing standards, new server logs and status codes to facilitate troubleshooting web applications, and the ability to change worker process identity from the user interface.

Physics - getting a raw deal in schools?

A British study, as reported by the BBC has found that physics is not only being taught less and less by those who specialize in the subject, but also not emphasized outside of a general science curriculum. While the research is focused on the UK, it brings up some far-reaching concerns about physics and other science specialties: The research also shows that physics teachers are more likely to be concentrated in particular types of school, such as those which are high-performing, grammar, all-girl and faith schools. The report’s authors argue that physics has been pushed into decline by a drive for general science courses. They call for the subject to be supported in a way that protects its separate identity….
