Why Twitter’s failing

Right now, Twitter is a mess. Most of today, European users have experienced outages of varying length and even hard core Twitter fans are saying they’ve had enough. Some have talked of jumping ship to Pownce or Jaiku. Louis van Proosdij, in answer to TechCrunch France’s Ouriel Ohayon offered: @OurielOhayon This is where Twitter may fail fast, and Wordpress new Prologue become THE solution with an effective distributed twitter like No-one seems to know what’s going on yet if you read DataCenter Knowledge, you’d think everything in the garden is rosy. That’s not the case. The Twitter blog told us they’d had a rough night and elicited an as expected amount of sympathy from the mostly US based commenters. All…

Word count [Pharyngula]

Hank Fox tallies the words used in Bush’s state of the union speech…which I missed. Which I won’t bother to listen to. The only word I want to hear him say is “Goodbye,” but apparently his speech was all about “Terra’.”

Bubba and Jesse Jackson, Part III

Another thing, as former President Bill Clinton must surely know, the Rev. Al Sharpton ran in South Carolina — and came in third. (LINK) Sharpton garnered 10% of the vote, behind John Edwards (45%) and John Kerry (30%). Jesse Jackson’s…

Coming up limp?

Tom Brady was spotted limping while wearing a walking cast in New York today.

I don’t have any doubts he’ll play in the Super Bowl, but he (and the Pats) have been tight-lipped about the injury so far.

Here’s to dreaming about emergency amputations…

UPDATE: I like how the New York Post called him a “girlie man” on their front page. Real classy:

Another way to waste a few minutes :: (Late) Santana reaction

My thought for much of this time was that the Yankees and Red Sox were secretly hoping the Mets would swoop in with some absurd offer and take the pressure off of each team. From what I'm hearing (not knowing a great deal about the Mets' prospects), they may have better matched the Twins' desires, but still aren't getting swindled. Neither the Yankees nor the Red Sox could afford to let the other get Santana, from a competitive standpoint. The Yankees, obviously, ar…

Microsoft wants to help you speed up Vista

Microsoft has published an article aimed at helping Vista users speed up their system - but the article takes a somewhat hit-and-miss approach to speeding up a PC.  Oh, and the best performance tip of all has been left out! Since several of you sent me a link to Optimize Windows Vista for better performance I just had to take a look at what gems of information Microsoft were handing out.  The article begins with statement which I agree with 100%: That state-of-the-art PC you bought last year might not feel like such a screamer after you install a dozen programs, load it with antispyware and antivirus tools, and download untold amounts of junk from the Internet. The slowdown might happen so…

Good for Oklahoma [Pharyngula]

I don’t know how I missed it, but I was just made aware of OESE, Oklahomans for Excellence in Science Education, another great group of smart people rising up to fight for good education. I presume all the Oklahomans in my readership will now inform me that they’ve known about this forever, and it’s about time I highlighted their good work?
