So a funny thing happened this week. After 4+ years covering events and blogging about them live, I attended Gnomedex, the Blogosphere’s Conference, this past week in Seattle and I didn’t blog a thing. More about why below. Gnomedex is an event I’ve always wanted to attend. I’ve known Chris Pirillo for years and finally met him and his wife Ponzi in person in 2003 at the first MSN Search Champs event. Every year Chris asks me if I’m attending and every year I’ve had one bad excuse or another for not attending. Nokia recalls batteries; at risk to explode

Nokia on Tuesday issued a product advisory for its BL-5C battery. The problem: The battery, which may affect as many as 46 million devices, could explode. In the advisory, Nokia said the battery was manufactured by Japan’s Matsushita Battery Industrial Co. between December 2005 and November 2006. The BL-5C battery is one of 14 used by Nokia. The advisory comes amid a spate of issues with batteries in laptops and other electronic devices. Nokia said: Nokia has identified that in very rare cases the Nokia-branded BL-5C batteries subject to the product advisory could potentially experience overheating initiated by a short circuit while charging, causing the battery to dislodge. Nokia is working closely with Matsushita and will be cooperating with…

VMware prices IPO at $29; Virtualization hits Wall Street

VMware’s IPO is ready for lift-off. Late Monday, the company said that shares of VMware’s IPO priced at $29 each. Shares will trade under the ticker VMW. As previously reported, VMware’s IPO is expected to be a hit as one of enterprise technology’s hottest technologies–virtualization–takes the spotlight. Separately, VMware announced the exchange ratio for VMware employees to swap their EMC options for VMware’s. One of the big reasons for VMware’s IPO was to provide options to recruit talent. The exchange ratio works out to be 0.611581. Novell updates Orchestrator

Novell’s Joe Wagner and Richard Whitehead caught up with me after a whirlwind trip to San Francisco for Linuxworld. They wanted to bring me up to date on Novell ZENworks Orchestrator. As you might remember, I chatted with Novell back in April (see Novell’s Orchestrator) for a post on that conversation. At that time, I was impressed with the simplicity and power of Novell’s product. The major changes that appear V1.1 of Orchestrator are improvements to the user interface, virtual machine lifecycle management using a repository and better accounting functions for all of the physical and virtual resources being orchestrated.
